Additionally, Centos 5.4 has recently been released and is undergoing Microlite’s certification test.  This version should be certified and supported soon.

The Next Generation

Microlite reports, “Our engineering team is hard at work on a next-generation BackupEDGE product.”  Some great new features will be released in this upcoming version, so stay tuned for more information from Microlite.  They also mention in their newsletter that customers under a 2.x maintenance agreement will receive a significant discount on the upgrade, so be sure to keep your maintenance agreement valid.

This is the first paid upgrade to BackupEDGE in over 6 years(!) so be expecting some exciting new features.

BackupEDGE 2.0 employs its own cryptographically strong random number generator and a powerful combination of symmetric and asymmetric algorithms to encrypt and decrypt archived data. It is completely standards-based. Individual archives are protected by separate, randomly generated 256 bit AES encryption keys, which are in turn protected by a 2048 bit RSA key pair. Encryption is fully integrated into the product and performed at the file level, providing the following benefits…
